유럽 여성연합은 제5차 연례 유럽대륙 여성지도자 컨퍼런스 이 유네스코 세계문화유산으로 지정된 스페인 마드리드 산로렌소데엘에스코리알에서 개최되었다.

이번 컨퍼런스는 라는 주제로 유럽 14개국 87명의 여성지도자들이 참석한 가운데 서로의 의견을 나누고 배우는 소중한 시간으로 5월 27일부터 29일까지 진행되었다.

2박 3일의 일정으로 진행된 컨퍼런스는 다양한 강연 및 회의, 명상을 통한 자아성찰, 성당에서 이뤄진 자매결연, 엘 에스코리알 관광 등 다양한 프로그램으로 진행되었으며, 평화대사 시상식을 끝으로 마무리 되었다.

지난 15년 간 활발히 여성연합 활동 하였고 2007년도 북한 금강산에서의 워크숍을 포함하여 여성연합 연례 세계지도자 워크숍등 적극적인 활동을 해온 이스터 칼로브코바 회장(슬로바키아)이 53세의 나이로 2011년 2월 28일 지병으로 승화했다.

이에 지난 5월 제5차 연례 유럽 컨퍼런스 참석한 참석자들은 이스터 회장의 승화추모식을 가졌다. 이스터 회장은 남편과 4명의 자녀를 두고 있다.

The 5th WFWP European Annual Conference

May 27-29, WFWP Europe held its 5th Annual European Conference on the Dignity of Women at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a UNESCO Heritage site near Madrid, Spain, under the theme “Education for a Culture of Peace: Investing in Partnerships and Transforming our Society.” Coming from some fourteen countries in Europe, 87 women gathered together to share and learn from each other.

It was such a pleasure to have Pres. Lan Young Moon with us for the weekend, a weekend full of lectures, discussions, a tour of the El Escorial, music, reflection in the form of meditation, and for the first time ever, a Bridge of Peace Ceremony in a chapel!

On late Sunday morning Ambassadors for Peace awards were presented, and as we left the conference was hailed as a tremendous success!

* Mrs. Ester Calovkova (53), president of WFWP Slovakia, who ascended February 28, 2011.

[Ester and her husband had four children, and she was active with WFWP for 15 years. She attended several WFWPI annual meetings, including North Korea in 2007. ]

A memorial service was held during the 5th WFWP Europe Conference in May.
