12월 10일 파포스에 있는 사립학교에서 인권의 날을 맞이하여 축하행사가 있었다. 8세에서 15세 연령대의 다양한 국적을 가진 450여명의 어린이들과 각 학교의 임원들 및 학부모회 회장들이 참석하였다.

유엔 난민 고등 판무관 대표와 키프러스 팔레스타인 커뮤니티 회장과 중동여성평화회의 회원들이 나와 연설하고 2006년 캘리포니아에서 있었던 자매, 형제 결연 비디오를 보여주었다. 다양한 국적의 학생들이 다양한 악기와 음악, 시, 춤을 선보였다. 임원들은 당장이라도 자매, 형제 결연 행사를 하고 싶은 마음을 보였고 우리는 다른 학교들도 같은 행사를 해달라는 초대를 받았다.

Cyprus

On the 10th of December, at a public school in Pafos, there was a celebration for Human Rights Day. Some 450 children aged 8-15 from many nationalities were present with the directors and the president of PTA.

A representative of UNHCR, and the President of the Palestinian Community in Cyprus, and a member of MEW Conferences all spoke, and we showed a video of a Bridge of Peace Ceremony. There were musical intermissions with songs, poems and dances representative of the students’ different nationalities. The director wants now to hold a Bridge of Peace Ceremony and we are invited to do the same in other schools.
