2013년 11월 25일부터 30일까지 키프로스 섬의 유엔 존에서 ‘다문화국가인 키프로스에서의 교육의 역할’이라는 주제를 가지고 키프로스와 여러 국제 NGO 기관들이 함께 회의를 열었다. 4일간 문화행사가 진행된 가운데 여성연합 키프로스 본부는 첫 날 저녁 자매결연식인 ‘평화의 다리’ 행사를 주최하였다.

총 70여명의 사람들이 방문하였으며 7쌍이 자매결연을 하였다.

현재 키프로스는 남북으로 나뉘어져 충돌이 일어나고 있는 두 곳을 비롯하여 키프로스 내에 존재하는 다양한 커뮤니티들 간의 화해와 협력을 이루고자 하는 취지 아래 이번 행사를 가졌다. 그리스계, 터키계, 아르메니아계, 마론파교, 라틴계를 대표한 키프로스인들이 함께 하며 서로간의 화합을 약속하는 장이 되었다.

이번 행사는 참석자들에게 여성연합의 강한 인상과 희망을 남겨주었으며, 앞으로도 계속 ‘평화의 다리’ 행사를 지속되기를 원했다.

Middle East-Cyprus, 'The Role of Education in a Multicultural Cyprus' Bridge of Peace Sisterhood Ceremony

From November 25-30, several Cypriot and international NGOs together held a significant conference titled 'The Role of Education in a Multicultural Cyprus' within the UN Zone on the island of Cyprus. During the first 4 days, many cultural events took place and WFWP  Cyprus conducted a 'Bridge of Peace Sisterhood Ceremony' on the first evening.

All together, 70 people attended and seven pairs of ladies, representing all the local communities: Greek-Cypriot, Turkish-Cypriot, Armenian-Cypriot, Maronite-Cypriot and Latin-Cypriot, participated in the ceremony. This event was held to bring about reconciliation and cooperation between individuals of the various communities living in Cyprus.

The 'Bridge of Peace' impressed all who attended and offered hope for a future of peace and friendship. Many people want to see this event take place again!
